Jack Kelly found twelve-year-old Ella Stanson crouched in an alley looking like Brooklyn. Brooklyn being death. After deciding not to hand her over to the nuns, he takes her home with him to the Manhattan Newsies Lodging House. For two years she remains with the Manhattan Newsies until she decides to strike out on her own. Queens opens their doors for her and it pays off two years later when she becomes the "King of Queens" π. After building her empire, Brookie, as she came to be called, is pretty confident of what she calls her "Queens Empire." But when the prices of papes go up, Brookie is forced to work in close proximity with people who could use her real identity to bring down the "Queens Empire." Will her identity be protected or will it all come tumbling out like the hair in her cap? And what happens if she starts feeling herself going soft for someone she could never be with? She is a real good fighter and can take care of herself pretty well. When she was 5, her parents were taken away and murdered, therefore she had to run away and ended up in Manhattan, for everyone thought she was the one that did it. Jack Kelly, who became her unofficial brother, took her in after a few years and brought her up to fight and sell papers. She has no need to dress up as a boy, being herself is much more intimidating. Tempest cannot do anything and thinks there should be more excitement in her boring dull New York life. Spot is the feared newsie leader from Brooklyn. He is known as a big womanizer, but he hasn't found "the one" yet. Right now he is with a girl named Livia, a greedy shirtwaist factory girl. He is a pretty good leader for Brooklyn, his cane that he stole from Pulitzer and his slingshot are his main weapons. Being intimidating has always been his way to get people to do what he wants, but it doesn't work on Tempest, not one bit. As they meet, will these two powerful newsies clash? Racetrack Higgins was a normal Manhattan Newsie- more or less. He was Gay, but so were all of his brothers. He was Jack's Second in Command and had a rough past. He was stubborn, has anxiety, and is a good bit chaotic. Spot Conlon was not a normal Newsie. He was the King of Brooklyn, the Borough feared by most. Except for Race. (And a few others.) Said Italian blonde boy was actually a half Brooklyn, half Manhattan Newsie, as he sold in Brooklyn. Sure, Spot scared him sometimes, but not a lot. They were very different. Spot had brown hair, Race had dirty blonde. Race had been to the Refuge, Spot hadn't. Spot had brown eyes, Race had bright blue eyes. Race was strong, but easily outnumbered, Spot was strong, but wasn't easily outnumbered. One think they both agreed was that they cared for their boys more than anything and would do anything to keep them safe. Oh, that and that the other was cute.
