Book 1 in a series! Despite what Emrys has been told, her Kingdom Abneer was not the only one to survive, King Reyes is not the only monarch, and monsters are real. Previously a soldier for the King, now betrothed to his son, Prince Roan, Emrys Ortega is starting to feel the burden of the title she never wanted. After repeatedly sneaking out of the palace leads to a sinister threat from the King, Emrys begins to worry for her family's safety. So when she learns that one of her kingdom's soldiers has been kidnapped by the Queen of another Kingdom, Valoria, she sees this as her opportunity to redeem herself in the King's eyes and protect her family. The only problem is that she had no idea the Kingdom of Valoria even existed. In fact, the Kingdom is unlike her own. It's filled with the same monsters from the stories she had been told-monsters of the night. In order to rescue the soldier, Emrys must team up with the notorious monster, the Shadow Knight, and his team of mercenaries. Through their missions and encounters with the monsters, Emrys not only learns the true extent of the lies she had been fed, but that the King has something planned, far bigger than she ever imagined, and finally realizes that her true enemies may not be the monsters after all. Sure, she gets the occasional slap from her Mother, and lives in the poor section of her Country being overly bored with her life, but she's at least normal. Except when you couple those details with the fact that she has crippling anxiety that makes communicating, or doing anything around others torturous for her. This is the main reason why she can never receive her Mother's love that she so desperately wants. Until, her parents catch wind that the Royal Academy is opening back up. The Academy is accepting one fifteen year old or older girl or boy to compete in a race to become the next monarch of Alumbridge. Her Mother is overjoyed at the news, until she realizes she only has one option to send there. So here we are, anxiety-ridden Catherine forced to compete in this competition with other people her age just to help her family with finances, and finally receive affection from her mother. Things at the Academy are alright, rocky, but overall she's alright. She's just passing by. Until, she discovers some dark truths against her world that she can't bear to ignore any further. These truths both propel her into action, and cause her to question all she's known her entire sheltered life.

This is where the lines between hero and villain blur. Once upon a time, in a distant kingdom in the Rose Valley, there lived a young princess. Maybe a little proud. Maybe she was the sweetest princess. And maybe not. She had many suitors, but she did not accept a single proposal for her hand in marriage. She didn't want to become a king's wife, she wanted to be a queen and rule her country. But one day darkness crept into the happy kingdom. A thick fog crept through the forest. Shadows walked under the treetops. The Shadow Lord came to propose to Princess Luna. She rejected him like everyone else, despite the fact that he was the only one who managed to impress her. However, the Shadow Lord isn't about to give up so quickly. He presents a gift to the princess. For the rest of eternity, at the stroke of midnight, she will die and come back to life with the first rays of day. Again and again. Every night. An endless cycle. Because as the Shadow Lord said, "I will wait for you, even if it takes forever." Old wounds are being opened. The boundaries between worlds are blurring. Will a prince on a white horse arrive and bravely rescue a cursed princess or...?
The Leper King's Healer by fgtan3
84 parts Ongoing Mature
After a tragic accident that sent her back 843 years in time to the year 1179, in the Middle Ages, during the reign of Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, Kate Mitchell, a wealthy business tycoon in the pharmaceutical industry, a gifted ex-military, a pharmacologist and botanist, and a brilliant archer from 2022, wakes up as Lady Philippa, a pretty, innocent, frail, and proper young lady of House Antioch, with whom she shares nothing in common. She realised she had died on that day, and her soul travels back in time and takes over the body of Philippa, a helpless lady who would face tragedy, betrayal, and scandal before dying young and heartbroken. She chose to live as Philippa because she had a second chance at life and only one goal in mind: to live and survive at any cost. To succeed, she must thrive and learn to live in the Medieval era, where nothing is common for her, and, above all, she must avoid an arranged marriage, which will doom Phillipa to death after a terrible heartbreak. Lady Philippa, unfortunately, is about to be engaged to an unknown man, and she must devise a plan to prevent this from happening. Kate's background as an ex-military officer, pharmacologist, and botanist, as well as her limited knowledge of history, will be invaluable in surviving the historical mediaeval times when modern technology was out of reach. However, she requires the assistance of the reigning king, Baldwin IV, who is suffering from leprosy at the time. She'll have to take control of the situation. It is up to Kate's bravery and intelligence to find a way to persuade Baldwin IV to help her, and she has few options other than joining his royal court. Will the king accept her, or will she perish as the body's original owner? Will she be able to change her destiny? Alternatively, will she be able to find the love and family she seeks?
