Rosalind Rattray and her best friend, Xara Monsted, have always wanted to be Reapers. The people who guide your soul to purgatory once you die. However, to become a Reaper you cannot have a soul. Rosalind and Xara are desperate to keep their souls.

Danny Di Novi, the handsome boy from the city, is a mystery. The red book clutched in his strong hands never leaves his sight. There is one thing Rosalind knows well, those who have no soul are incapable of love. Can she really choose?  But everything is thrown into pandemonium when Rosalind stumbles upon a prophecy making the people closet to her, her biggest foes. What's for sure, the love of her life is her greatest enemy.
