Hundreds of millennia ago, an alien entity named Salus was sent to Earth to protect humankind. Just decades later, Salus, in the form of eight sorcerers, battled a horrific demon--the Hellion. Salus just managed to prevail against the Hellion, but the sorcerers died soon after its defeat. As Salus's host bodies disintegrated into the earth, Salus's magic dissolved into the air, waiting to be reclaimed.

Unfortunately, the Hellion's remains were preserved over time. The Hellion's claimed a new host, and can now last more than a few hours without the body expiring.

However, Salus's powers have also been reincarnated in a ragtag group of people who all happen to live in a small town in western Oregon.

Hazel Vinning, a scion of Salus, has an unusually traumatic background and is just coming to understand how and why it all began. Read along as Hazel overcomes her past, meets Salus's other descendants, and attempts, against all odds, to save mankind from an ancient force.
