The new Earth is a motionless planet that is nearly incapable of sustaining life, devastated by disease, nuclear warfare, geological and electromagnetic alteration or obstruction, and a major subtraction of natural resources, and as a result, the human race stands on the brink of extinction. There are only a few inhabitable destinations in this shattered world; the rest will guarantee zero chances of survival.

After the first few signs of the cataclysmic sequence of events become apparent, seventeen-year-old Meredith Hintermeister and her family are forced to evacuate from their decimated neighborhood and embark on a treacherous journey to the nearest safe haven to start anew with the handful of survivors that defeated the odds.

As the world continues to crumble around them, Meredith becomes increasingly concerned about the condition of her family, that they might not survive the journey. Facing geological upheavals, climate changes, kleptomaniacs, heinous gangs, and dysfunctional communication systems, the Hintermeister family optimistically treks on, struggling to defy the odds. However, an unanticipated confrontation with a heavily armed band of seasoned delinquents may ultimately denote their gruesome expiries.

Filled with hopelessness, confidence, grief, disgruntlement, romance, adventure, and suspense, "Immobility" tells the eye-widening story of Meredith Hintermeister's perilous journey through the chaos of a dying planet.

THE END [[#Wattys2020]] by dan-martin
15 parts Complete
Full of growing suspense and surprise turns, "The End," set in the very near future, follows the winding and overlapping paths of several compelling characters as they're forced to navigate independent, yet inter-winding paths through the turbulent waters of a post-apocalyptic planet. These men, women and children struggle to make impossible decisions and, for some, unthinkable autocracies, in the name of self-preservation. At the moment of the event, time abruptly stops, and then slowly begins again, as our heroes are and heroines are jolted out of their mundane lives and sent reeling. "When confronted with the impossible and the unbelievable, the most viable options are often the most irrational." --Greta Thunberg, May 2027 This book, although 'technically' a work of fiction, is unique because the author has actually been on-site and personally witnessed almost all of the events and narratives described in it. Dan Martin has seen some of the planet's worst natural and man-made catastrophic events--war, devastating earthquakes, government and economic collapse, pandemics, looting, killing and kidnapping. He has personally been immersed in the chaos, destruction and collapse of cities and nations, and is able to convey those raw, often gritty, surreal experiences through the novel's lead characters. As the reader follows the unfolding drama, the characters assume real-life behaviors, actions and reactions with which the reader can relate and identify. You may even share some of the same tragic experiences. It is an inconceivable perspective and awareness that can only be imprinted on an individual who has actually experienced and been present during and immediately after such a horrific, life-changing event--something other post-apocalyptic authors are completely oblivious to and can only imagine.

Some fates are worse than death--survival is one of them. In the two hundred years since humanity left the Earth's surface to live in the sky, life on the ground faded to a myth, a tragic memory from which they severed themselves to survive. They floated above continents turned to sand and lands swallowed by the seas, watched storm after storm rage against their cities and their monuments until they broke apart the last vestiges of civilization in penance for generations of human greed. As a lightning harvester charged with flying her ship into these storms for energy, Raina has seen more of the planet than most. She has spent her entire life soaring above its craters and scars, studying the gaping wounds of human devastation, as she honed her skills and became the youngest captain in storm-chaser history. Her ship has flown for generations. Her skills are unparalleled. But none of that matters the day they go down. ~ Praise for Earth, After: "I'm so not ready for this ending. 31 parts Complete

After a catastrophic war and a deadly virus that plagued the world, humanity is left divided, hunting each other down and murdering for vengeance... Or purely for fun. With humanity on the brink of extinction, and another war on the rise, a survivor is revived, given a chance to maybe, just maybe, save the world. ...And all she can remember is her name. ______________________________________ There is a name for those who mutated to survive the virus. I'm not talking about the immune, who can flush the disease straight from their system. I'm talking about The Freaks. If you listen to the rumours, after the Deathwave they started appearing from the wastes, people with no soul or conscience, although once human they now could be described as monsters. You'd think I'd agree, seeing as I ran away from them. But from where I stand, it's Humans who are the monsters.
