I grew up with animated movies, and as I got older I turned to anime and Japanese animated movies. Studio Ghibli was one of the most relevant animation producers in my life, so this is for them. If you haven't seen these films, I would 10/10 recommend you do!
The movies referenced are Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, Grave of the Fireflies, and Spirited Away.

So once you where born they decided to go back to California to raise you there. But now they are gone. It was summer vacation. You where going into your third year in high school. But they died in that time. Here are some facts about this different y/n: -your Mexican American - your lactose intolerant -you were actually abused by both parents -you have siblings who already have their lives together -you take your pet bunny with you to Japan -you are 5 feet tall -you have long hair (like to your knees) -you LOVE school (but you ain't no teachers pet) -you are an artist - you know some Spanish but not a lot -you love anime and know only very little Japanese -your dream career is to produce music Now the rest will probably be in the story. I watched an anime series called Neon Genesis Evangelion, and decided not to. 18 years later I wrote a book about everything that happened in-between. In my memoir/autobiography - The Journey So Far: A Transcultural Tale of Giant Robots, Abuse, Mental Illness, Spirituality and how Video Games and Anime Saved a Young Man's Life, I recount the story of how a young man faced with a myriad of crippling mental illnesses and a dysfunctional and abusive family kept afloat with the help of video games, anime, music, therapy and a host of other things. It is a tale of both tragedy and triumph - how I almost died on more than one occasion, but persevered and eventually found love, friendship, human connection and greater understanding of the world and its ways, as well as reconciliation with my abusers.
