Craitol and Renuih, two empires a world apart, divided by the desert that lies between them, a desert ruled by the Shadow Men. An uneasy peace holds sway in both realms, the calm hiding longstanding feuds and bitter rivalries that burst to the surface following a Shadow Men raid on the capital of Renuih. Masiph id Ezern, the unfavored son of the Imperial Vazeir, is wounded during the raid. As he recovers from his injuries, his dissatisfaction with his place, and his desire to forge a different path for himself, lead him into the arms of a conspiracy to overthrow the empire.
In Craitol, Vyissan, a mysterious alkemycal practitioner begins a journey to Renuih, the latest strike in a long war over who shall control the secrets of alkemya and the realm itself. He carries with him a secret that, once revealed, will reverberate across all realms. But first he has to cross the desert.
Realm of Shadows is the first volume in The Shadow Men, a richly imagined epic fantasy. The second volume, A Council of Shadows will be available in June, 2014.
