Shadowpaw, Turtlepaw and Hawkpaw are the kits of Thistleberry, the deputy of StormClan, and their mother is Oceanflower, an exiled cat. They are beginning their warrior assessment when their Clanmate, Flamepaw, runs into a fox and gets his eye permanently scratched out. Shadowpaw has always liked Flamepaw, but she thought his missing eye made him even more handsome. As she grew to a warrior, she gained the warrior name of Shadowfoot, for her black paws. Her and Flamepaw, now named Flameheart, grow closer and closer, but an unseen force of ashes is trying to keep them apart...
Turtlepelt, on the other paw, has become mates with Cloudstorm, who dies soon before his mate begins kitting. She gives birth to Blackkit and Willowkit, but they quickly wither away, leaving Turtlepelt lonely and depressed, until three small kits come into her paws. She names them Patchkit, Lionkit and Marblekit. Shadowfoot is always struck with an uneasy feeling whenever she looks at Marblekit, but then her brother Hawkflame, a new medicine cat apprentice, receives a prophecy.
"When the color of blood ebbs away, and the tangle of weeds is blown to its home by the wind, a new moon will rise and take its place among the Clans."
Sunpaw, Goldleaf, Lightningfeather, Cinderpaw.
Slowly CloudClan is flaking apart, and each of these cats have something to hide. As Sunpaw and Cinderpaw move closer to their warrior ceremony, the Clans begin to fall apart- caving from constant border fights. Sunpaw knows she can save them, but that would mean revealing who she truly is.
But can she do that?
Doubt swirls inside her. Anxiety gnaws at her stomach as prey hides away and the Clans become skinny and tired. Then suddenly Sunpaw has a dream- Doveheart telling her that "Snow will bring danger to the Clan." Sunpaw doesn't know what it means, but when a storm hits and the Clans are forced to find different food sources, can she save them from a fate that seems inevitable?
