The year is 1945, just months before the war ended, and Army Specialist Elizabeth Rogers-Williams along with her squadron has been sent on a mission to the town of Potsdam, Germany. Where they soon come face to face with a life threatening trap. Is this the last we hear of Eliza? Or is this only the beginning?

This story was written for a school science project, and is a science fiction plot that I made up along with the characters, any relation to someone real is purely coincidental. I hope you enjoy -JCT

"A gift." One guard says to someone else in the room as he leaves. I groan in pain and scrunch myself into a ball, squeezing my eyes shut. Seconds later I hear shuffling and then someone is beside me. "Y/N?" Asks a voice. No- Bucky's voice. My whole body relaxes and I let out a soft breath. He's ok. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Staying together has always been the most important thing to Y/N Rogers. After the death of her mother left her an orphaned 15-year-old, her friendship with her older brother Steve and best friend Bucky mattered more than ever. She latched onto them, finding some bittersweet solace in their closeness. In turn, they finished raising her. The three were inseparable. Even now, six years later, nothing has changed. So when Bucky and Steve both leave to fight in the war the last thing she's going to do is stay in Brooklyn. Nothing's too far if it keeps their trio together. Not leaving everything she knows behind, not shoving down feelings she's refused to acknowledge for years, not even risking her life time and time again. It's the kind of commitment fueled by an infinite amount of love, but guaranteed to end in disaster, every single time. Book Of Ruth

"Bitterness is unbecoming of a woman, but I cherish mine like the memory of first love. I see nothing in Leon Wagner, but an automaton. He is a machine of the Third Reich. I am surprised he even bleeds." In the summer of 1945, the world rejoices at the surrender of first Germany then Japan, but healing is a long time coming. Though they are not visible, Ruth Tucker's wounds run deep. Having worked as a nurse for the American Red Cross since the invasion of Normandy, Ruth's hatred for her country's former enemy runs deep. While stationed in Zell am See, Austria, she is assigned to nurse in a German POW camp. She meets a young Wehrmacht soldier, Leon Wagner, who speaks English and strives to spark a friendship with her. But Ruth's bitterness is almost too strong. All she sees in Leon is a heartless machine. Slowly, through a shared love of books and their families, she begins to recognize his humanity and starts to feel her own stir in her heart, something she thought long deadened by the months of violence.
