Set around the mid 20th century, in a loosely based historical rendition of war-torn Europe, Jan is a young, charismatic factory engineer, solely supporting an aging mother and his younger brother. He has promised his father they shan't see a day of distress - he intends on carrying that promise to his grave if God wills it.
But, the fishermen never circle around the low tide.
