"Are you two close?"

I didn't have to ask what he meant by that. "And why should you care?" A part of me, deep down, hoped he would say he cared for me. I had a feeling he was worse than I'd imagined, and yet, I wanted to forget all of that.

"Do you want me to?"

"You brought it up, so you must care at least a little."

"I don't possess those emotions. I was assuming you already knew that. Unless you were hoping I would be different?" I dared to risk a glance at him, quickly looking away when I realized he was watching me.

"Are you saying that I'd be so stupid as to develop feelings for you? Even I'm not that careless." I met his unwavering gaze.

"You're more careless than you think."

(COMPLETED--for the most part) DISCLAIMER: this book is heavily unedited. This is the first draft, I have put this on hold while I work another book, but I do plan to come back to this. Feedback would be very much appreciated. When Mae's mysterious magic takes her into the heart of a Fae kingdom, she makes a deal she may soon regret. When a bargain is made between her and a king--protection in exchange for assistance-- she can't help but feel like something more is bound to happen. Mae has the powers of an immortal Fae, but she is in a mortal body. She is destined to find answers and fulfill her end of the bargain, but will the king do the same? Mae is brought into a world of passion, trust, and war, but what of those will she find for herself?
