Meet Deuce Reynolds, pothead and video game extraordinaire. Very unmotivated, very bright, has the potential to do better, at least, that's what the teachers tell his parents in every report card. In an effort to get him to focus more on his schoolwork, they send him to live with his Aunt Kiara in New York, away from his friends, his home, and everything he knows. But soon after arriving, North Korea launches missiles at U.S. bases in Japan, and the U.S. retaliates, soon escalating into World War III. Deuce is caught in the middle of this, and has to learn how to survive, and fast, in an entirely new environment.

Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem.
