Alexander Schmitt is the person that no one knows, he simply coexists with the people around him. He is only seen as a danger to society because he sees things that no one else sees, literally. This is because Alex has schizophrenia. He remains detached from his community as well as reality as he struggles to pick out what is real and what isn't. In his life, most things have been temporary: his family, his friends, his education, and even his hallucinations.
However, once he is admitted to the Dunbar Memorial Hospital, he begins his trek through a daunting path to self-discovery. His time at the hospital also offers him an opportunity to answer the question that everyone has for him: Can he love?
