Twelve year old Gilly Morris is about to journey through a summer of loss, bullies, guilt and terror. Told from her point of view, 2003 is the summer when the horrible, terrible thing happened to her and her mother. Journey's Child is the story of unimaginable loss and pain, and where redemption comes at a high price. Drakes Harbor is an old art community on the Oregon coast where Gilly and her mother spend that fateful summer. Alone with her guilt and pain, Gilly befriends a grizzled hermit living with his own loss. Journey's Child isn't a story of what life can take away but rather the cautionary tale of surviving the storm together.

Every summer, Seabrook Beach looks the same-sun-bleached boardwalk, ice cream melting too fast, the sound of waves and early-2000s pop drifting through open windows. But this year, everything is different. Riley Brooks, freshly heartbroken and determined not to let anyone see her crumble, returns to the beach town that holds both her happiest memories and her biggest humiliations. Unfortunately, her ex-the boy who shattered her confidence-and his new girlfriend are staying two cabins away, watching her every move. Backed into a corner, Riley blurts out one desperate lie: She already has a new boyfriend. A cooler one. A hotter one. A surfer. And by pure accident (or fate), the person standing behind her when she lies... is Jace Carter-the boy who spent their whole childhood teasing her, the boy with sun-bleached hair and trouble in his smile, the boy who absolutely should've walked away. Instead, he slips an arm around her and plays along. Now Riley and Jace are fake-dating through bonfires, beach parties, jealous exes, and late-night boardwalks. But the longer they pretend, the harder it becomes to tell what's fake and what's something else entirely-something warm, breathless, and real. As old secrets rise, new feelings spark, and drama spreads through the beach town like wildfire, Riley and Jace will have to confront the truth: They started as a lie... but they might end as everything.
