*COMPLETED* Annalise(Ann) had a simple life. A loving family, and a roof over her head. But when that is taken away, when the king and his men destroy her village and take her life away. She is thrown into a life of servitude to the king. But What happens when the king develops a deep desire for her? Will she fall in love with the merciless King? 𝑬𝒙𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒑𝒕: I hear the king get up from his seat and start walking over to me. I see his shoes come into my line of vision. My senses are clouded by his strong scent of cedarwood. I refuse to look up at him. He gives off an aura that is dark and intimidating. My eyes begin to swell with tears at the thought that I will end up like the man before me. "Look at me," he commands in a deep voice. I refuse. He commands again this time more cynical, "Look. at. me!" His voice booms off the walls, echoing in the room. I flinch at the tone but still refuse. Then suddenly, he roughly raised my chin. My eyes meet his cold blue ones. His eyes seem to soften for a moment then quickly return to their cold state. He muttered something under his breath that I didn't catch. He lets go of my chin and walks around, scanning me with his eyes. "What am I to do with you?" He mutters to himself. After a few moments, he is back in front of me. He smirks, "I will make you my personal chambermaid." CONTINUE THE STORY INSIDE... Octavia Moretti has spent her life in the shadows of the mafia world. Silent, calculating, and untouchable. But when an assassination attempt leaves her father on his deathbed, she's forced into an arranged marriage with their family's greatest enemy: Luca Barone. Luca is ruthless, feared, and utterly merciless. He never wanted a wife, let alone her; the woman who hates him for her brother's death. But their marriage isn't about love; it's about power. A fragile truce to unite two warring families against a traitor in their ranks. Octavia refuses to be a pawn, and Luca refuses to be distracted. But when she's ambushed and left for dead, everything changes. Luca finds her bleeding out, barely alive; and something inside him snaps. Nobody touches what's his. From that moment, Luca is obsessed with protecting her, his need to hunt down the men who hurt her becoming a brutal, unforgiving mission. He doesn't go into hiding; he makes them run. While Octavia struggles against his control, Luca wages war in her name, carving a path of vengeance through the underworld. But Octavia is no damsel in distress. She won't be locked away, won't be controlled, and certainly won't let Luca fight her battles alone. As their forced proximity turns to something more dangerous; a desire neither of them can fight; the lines between hate and obsession blur. Loyalty will be tested. Betrayal is inevitable. And when the truth about who ordered the hit comes to light, it won't just break their fragile alliance; it will force them to decide if protecting each other is worth setting the world on fire.

Co writing with Csteptoe Overview: Roman Britain, 43 - 410 AD Conquered for vanity, half-heartedly Romanised and eventually abandoned to its fate, Roman Britain represents a fascinating microcosm of the rise and fall of an empire. Why Britain? Why did the Romans invade Britain in 43 AD? Their empire already extended from the Channel coast to the Caucasus, from the northern Rhineland to the Sahara. The great age of conquest had ended a few decades before. Three legions had been destroyed in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest by rebellious German tribesmen in 9 AD, and the emperor Augustus concluded that the empire was overextended and called a halt to new wars of conquest. Britain was an afterthought. It was not about economics. Rome's rulers were already the richest men in history. Nor was it about military security. The Channel was as effective a frontier as one could wish for. The invasion of Britain was a war of prestige. The 'mad' emperor Caligula had been assassinated in 41 AD, and an obscure member of the imperial family, Claudius, had been elevated to the throne. The new emperor faced opposition from the Senate, Rome's House of Lords. Claudius needed a quick political fix to secure his throne. What better than a glorious military victory in Britain? The army was the core of the Roman state. In a few centuries, it had transformed Rome from a small city-state into the greatest empire of antiquity. Its conquests more than paid for themselves in booty, slaves and tribute. War was highly profitable. Roman culture reflected this, valuing military achievement above all else. Roman leaders had to prove themselves first and foremost as army commanders. And where better for Claudius to prove himself than in Britain?
