The Rift Between Worlds

Long ago, the worlds of flesh and spirit were one. However, conflict between the two escalated. Something had to be done to prevent their utter destruction. The two could not be entirely separated without undoing creation, so the Soul-bond was forged. There are a few people in every generation capable of forming a bond with a being from the other world. This fusion of souls is powerful. It provides those involved with the ability to access the others thoughts, feelings, senses, and strength. Then, not many years ago, a man discovered how to breach the barrier. He created a new bred of creatures, men fused with the darker entities of the spirit realm, and they marched on the known kingdoms. They failed, due to the efforts of an organization called the Rangers. After the war, a Seer came forward, prophesying of the Pythons return. Now the time has come.
