A Modern Joke
As an aspiring writer, it's difficult not to look at stories you love and wonder 'What if?' I have notice how the Joker's origin in The Killing Joke and the Joker movie (2019) both stories take place during the 1980s. But what if it took place today? That's what I try to answer! In this original work I explore how a complex character like the Joker could emerge and be influence by current social problems. It's a romantic, and specially mysterious short story that I wish one day could help me make it to DC as a comic book writer, and if I don't, at least I enjoyed writing it, and I hope you enjoy reading it! Disclaimer: This story is an original idea, of course I reference moments from DC comics and I borrow their characters to tell the story (After all, It's a fan fiction), but each character belongs to the respective owners.Complete

Wanting to be a superhero and becoming one, are two completely different things. But becoming the opposite? That's way easier. And sometimes it's not on purpose. Fate didn't want me to be a hero. I was a fairly normal girl, growing up in Central City. A city where superheroes and super villains didn't exist... until the particle accelerator exploded. Many people were turned into these metahumans, me being one of them. Likely one of the only changed nine year olds at the time. My parents were both scientists for Star Labs, being two of the many others that died in the blast. Needing to get away, I decided to move to Gotham. A good city to hide in. Maybe it wasn't the best city to move to, but, in the end, I'm glad I did. In the crazy town, I was adopted by the two craziest people there. The Deranged Duo, Harley Quinn and Joker. "Rescued by villains, who knew?" I say. "Villains rescue fellow villains," Joker says. "Sounds funny coming from you," I scoff. "Aww, is that the way you should treat your saviors?" Joker teases. "I could've taken them," I scoff. "Why did you save me?" "We watched you take out the last group of thugs," Harley says. Fear is fate. A year after the events of Batman: Son Of Gotham, Bruce Wayne and the GCPD begin noticing erratic behaviour across the city of Gotham, as the citizens begin going insane and causing harm to one another, a potentially fatal gas engulfs the city, and there's one man who can stop it. Big step up from part 1" - Smithers "Overall, a great story. Kept me on my toes, I didn't know what was going to happen next a lot of the time (which might be a problem with my own works, as I feel like what I write is pretty formulaic). There's a lot more character building moments now. Riddler was actually a really fun inclusion and his presence and actions made the finale infinitely more exciting. Robin was pretty damn good and scarecrow was cool and fun and creepy yet understandable. Overall 100% your best DCSV fic and maybe your best fic overall.
