In 1899, Jack Kelly just wanted to give up. The strike wasn't turning in the newsboys' favor, and he'd almost been caught by Snyder four times in one month. He needed a miracle.

Instead, he got an eye-rolling, sarcasm-giving, blonde-haired smart-ass who seemed to have come from nowhere.

It's 1969, and 17-year-old Gemma Mullaney's world is spinning out of her control. A former art student now turned peace advocate, Gemma's boyfriend has just been drafted into the war in Vietnam and is said to be missing in action. She is afraid she will lose him like she lost her father the year prior. After a visit to her father's headstone one evening, she feels as though someone is following her home, much to her horror. The next morning, she wakes up to be on her own in New York City, currently having its own inner battles such as trolley worker riots and the newsboys' strike of 1899.
