Taken away from his family at a young age, Burt was sent away to a lab and experimented on. During all these tests, he slowly lost his sanity along with his human traits. He began to eat human flesh and indulged more with his animalistic side. However, sometimes bits of his human side would seep through and he would get painful headaches. The headaches were actually just his brain trying to help him figure out what his past life was like, however, he was quickly dealt with whenever he had a.. headache. One day, he went ballistic and went on a rampage, killing everyone in his path. He broke out of the laboratory and ran away into the woods. Now he was cold, tired, hungry, and trying to figure out who he was and what his old life was like. With his father gone, Matthew Samuels struggled with his mental and physical health. His mom's boyfriend, Joseph, wasn't much of a help either. With only a few more weeks of summer left, Matthew just wanted to make the most out of it. However, during a camping trip, they came across a lost boy who went by the name, "Rickey."
