When Raylen meets Derrick Devenport, who is admittedly on the poor side; something her parents would never approve of, she hasn't ever met another like him. He's smart, sexy, and very mysterious. His deep green eyes and dark hair intrigue her, and his smile draws her in.

When Raylen's childhood best friend ends up aboard the ship with her she isn't at all surprised, but when he proposes to her, surprise isn't even the right word. Rejecting James Porter's​ proposal isn't an option, with her father threatening to send her away and cut her off.
