The Rise of the Chosen One (Book One in the Fallen Knight Saga)

Since the dawn of time, mankind has seen its world change drastically for better and for worse. After the banning of magic over one hundred and fifty years ago and the disappearance of the dragons, humans that were even suspected of using any sort of magic were executed by the order of the king. The Guardians were created by the King to carry out the King's sentence and so they have been for a century.

That was how life was in the Kingdom of Shadowdawn. If you keep your head low enough, then the guards and the king won't even notice you are there. Peasants scurried across roads and slaves rushed to finish the tasks they were given by their masters. Everything was all in order, until one fateful day when a young boy is born with the power to either save the world or destroy it. He will decide the fate of the entire world, as that is what he was born to do. The prophecy has been fulfilled.

Tannin has tried not to think about the Swordsman Gauntlet for years, but after the King raised the stakes by raising the prize, his mother encourages him to sign up and he does, but he runs into... a bit of trouble.

A breed of monster that has been said to be long extinct has risen from the ashes and is now hunting Tannin. It believes that he has magic, but if he did then the Guardians would have sought him out and killed him... right?

After a mysterious stranger saves him and kills the beast, he joins Tannin and makes sure that he makes it to the tournament safe, and on time.

When the tournament starts, something weird happens when Tannin starts to fight, his fighting style changes and morphs into something fluid, like he had been fighting all his life, only, he hadn't, only training that he had taught himself. Tannin is not the only one to notice these changes...
