Ivy Cole has just moved to a foggy English town near where she was born because of her mother's and father's moving about in the army. She's sent to live with her uncle Al. To her surprise she's sent to the one place she doesn't want to be, school. But this school is a little different, it's familiar. So is the beach outside her house. Everything seems to be flicking back memories that were once lost. But there might be a cost to retrieving these memories. It might be deadly.

Everyone has that one secret about their family they hope never sees the light of day. For most people it's an embarrassing story or an eccentric relative; for me it's who my entire family is. If my fellow classmates knew who I had been raised by, or fathered by, I would become cast out, a black spot on their memory. It shouldn't bother me, especially since I loved my uncle, the man who raised me and loved me in return; but I wanted to fit in. I wanted to have a normal school experience.
