Banker Byron Proctor could move continents with his mind if he so wished. His cunning and clever personality shaped Dickinson Digits into the prestigious bank that it is today. Byron researches, raises money, advises, manages, and invests--all with a tucked shirt and time leftover for banter with co-workers. The 100-year anniversary of Dickinson Digits grows closer by the day, and town newspaper The Honest Abe conducts an interview to celebrate this important milestone. Beatrice Bungalow, acclaimed writer and "mother" of The Honest Abe, interviews Byron herself. For once, he feels challenged, as if he has to prove his intelligence and success. Though Beatrice shows clear disgust with the "pretentious, politician-esque prick", the challenge intrigues Byron. He is determined to re-establish his title of 'prosperous businessman', all with a tucked shirt and time leftover for banter with co-workers.

When she first heard about the stipulation in her mothers will, Trilby Gladstone spluttered with laughter. She assumed it was her mother's idea to get her smiling and laughing again. Knowing it was real certainly sobered up the situation. Work for the rest of her days as a cleaning lady for Chelsea Thompson or marry her son, William. The choices didn't seem any clearer when Will turned up with his fiancée Eve. Deciding to hide the truth of having to spend the rest of her her slaving away seemed the best idea. Will didn't need to know anything about her mother's crazy ideas. When Will starts showing a keen interest in Trilby's return, things begin to change. Keeping the truth from him now seemed perilous. Still, Trilby didn't want him to feel indebted to her. She begins to wonder how out of hands things could possibly get. What she didn't bet on was a sneaky mother, a greedy fiancée and a man who she had always wanted. Life it seemed was about to become complicated.
