Myra Kate Durden's vacation to Nevada changed thousands of lives, including her own, forever.

The dark cloud following the accident that killed her father 3 months prior left the 19 year-old poet without anything to write, which is essential to a professional like Kate who depends on writing for an income. That is why her mother suggested she journeyed to Nevada's wild plains in the first place, to gain some inspiration and shake loose the depression.
