Penumbra

Vil is a blood mage, a former member of the Brotherhood and a wielder of one of the thirteen breeds of magic. Each breed identifies as a creature from cultures around the world, but after a war that nearly destroyed the entire world, the mages are at a loss for power. At the center of each breed, there is a God Machine that grants the races their power, and a gemstone that can amplify those abilities a thousandfold. Someone is employing Vil to gather these crystals, but their purpose, and even their identity, are a mystery. Plaguing Vil's life is a human woman named Helena, a free spirit who is determined to understand the life Vil leads, as well as that of his friends Levi and Damen. The mysterious Xiv will show his face eventually, but Vil is constantly in a power struggle with the other races, not to mention a vengeful Brotherhood, that threatens his life on a regular basis.
