"The slap was abrupt but anticipated. It knocked her onto her hands and knees, but she managed to catch herself before falling flat on the ground. Her face stung and the blow caused her eyes to involuntarily water. She could not allow any signs of weakness to show. She had worked too long and too hard to get the level of respect she received at the present day."
His ideology was what drew her to him. A man who saw the world as filthy and corrupt was she did was all she ever wanted.  But now his ideas are a danger to her and their son as each day they grow more extreme. 
Now all Saoirse (pronounced sear sha) wants is to go back to reality. For her, it would be familiar.  Things common and previously known. But for her son, this is a brave new world.
