Making the best of a bad situation...
After the death of her father, Beth Bishop works as a theatre set painter on in the Drury Lane Theatre to help support her and her mother. Not having the constraints of society has given her a taste of freedom that she wouldn't have otherwise, but it doesn't give her time to pursue her art and the dream of being part of the Royal Exhibition.
Haunted by regret...
Michael Cannon, Marquis of Langston, has one regret: that he didn't marry Beth Bishop when he had the chance, five years ago. They fell in love while he studied art with her father, but family obligations forced them apart. They exchanged letters for a while, but then the letters stopped, leaving Michael wondering what happened. When he is finally able to return to London Society, he searches for Beth but cannot find her.
A chance meeting and an open door...
A chance meeting at the Royal Academy of Art, brings Michael and Beth together again, but it's her mother that forces the issue when she tries to force Langston into proposing. Langston wants nothing more than to marry Beth, but will he be able to persuade her to take a chance on their love despite their class differences?
