"The first to go was our sanity, the next our kin, and now our lives."

The water that humans have relied on for hundreds of years has finally been contaminated. An experimental drug-never tested, yet expected to be sold as a mass poison on the black market-has been unleashed and merged with the very water we have been drinking our whole lives. With the contaminated water having deadly side affects on humans, Ashwyn is forced to leave her home and sanity behind, and instead place her trust in 4 teenagers just as naive and confused as she is. With anarchy, an elusive reporter with a claim to paradise, and a nuclear war coming their way, the apocalypse is coming, to rob them of everything.

A 2019 Wattys entry deeply into climate change, global warming, and environmental destruction, especially the nuclear kind! A lot of true facts are embedded in this story which has both true and fictional characters. Who is to be believed is for you to decide. The chapters are many but many are short. Still, it is a full-sized novel with promise for future adventures. Plot: An international crew of scientists board a large state-of -the art oceanographic vessel privately funded by an anonymous source. The itinerary is to travel down the west coast of the Americas and travel the South Pacific to Antarctica. The team plans to visit many known sites of hydrothermal vents using a device called the MAPR, searching vents for a bacterium that seems promising in use as a way to fight carbon dioxide emissions. But one of the two junior scientists on the team soon realizes that secrets are being kept, and makes promises to keep some, while learning that some onboard have entirely different agendas. To complicate matters, this junior scientist's desire for a special friendship grows in intensity, just as mysterious murmurings and strange sightings intensify. And then, the ship experiences a sequence of events that will draw world attention and leave all of us with more questions than answers. "If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water." Life On This Planet: Book 1

20 partes Concluida

By 2422, humankind has achieved an ecotopian climate-positive future. There's zero conflict and zero waste throughout the whole world. But, when a young girl starts having mysterious visions of a walled city, it might signal the ancient return of something threatening this ideal. Can humans escape their nature, or will they return to their old patterns and behaviours? Zee, a quiet and industrious young girl, begins to have vivid dreams and visions of a walled city and a mysterious red book when she turns fifteen. She embarks on a dangerous training programme, meeting other teenagers from around the planet, navigating deep sea trenches, black holes, and a new romance whilst trying to uncover an ancient mystery surrounding quantum entanglement. Will she solve it to save her pet squid and the planet? When millions of Earth's populations left four hundred years ago seeking a new planet to colonise, it paved the way for Earth to stabilise and thrive. But what happened to those people? Why has there been no contact? Are the visions sent from the ancient humans who left planet Earth? Zee quickly learns that her newfound independence is not without its challenges. Some of which might not be from this planet.
