Everyone knows the story. A handsome, arrogant young prince denied shelter to an old hag only to discover that she was a beautiful enchantress. In return, she turned the young man into a horrible, ugly beast, doomed to stay that way until a woman fell in love with him, and he with her by his 21st birthday. But now, the story's changed. Meet Beau, the handsome book-loving son of Marie, the town's inventor (and possibly crazy lady as well), who wants so dearly for an adventure. Constantly hounded by the most attractive young woman in town, Gabrielle, he ignores her pleas for marriage by digging in deeper to his books. When his mother mysteriously goes missing one day on her way to an invention fair, he sets off on an adventure through the forest that changes his life forever. With a plot following the events of the original 1991 Beauty and the Beast, be our guest and indulge in the genderbender retelling of one of French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve's beautiful stories.

A Retelling of the Fairy Tale: Beauty and the Beast.-- Rosalie yearns for new sights and adventure, but she's trapped on the French coast in a simple little village where she lives with her father, the inventor. She strives for some semblance of peace by evading the people, particularly one terribly incorrigible hunter. But when she comes face to face with the fabled monster of the woods, Rosalie is conflicted with the instinct to flee and the undeniable connection she feels for the beast. Eventually, she has to make a choice: Either she runs away from destiny, relegating herself to a mundane, boring life. Or, she gives up everything she's accumulated in her twenty years to seek out the adventure she'd always dreamed of.
