It is the year 2088, and all the fossil fuels on Earth have officially been used up. First, it was the coal, then the natural gas, and finally the petroleum.
Of course, the government has tried to fix things. But our old energy sources are gone, and there's nothing they - or anyone else - can do about it.

And then there's Maxine Winters, a high-school girl who just wants to live a normal life with her friends, although that's pretty hard to do when your world is fading away before your very eyes. Will she let it? Or will she choose to do something about it?

Maxine's closest friends, of course, will be by her side. Even Hayley, the quiet girl who never wanted anything to change. But now with the new troubles of our world and problems at school, she's not sure if anything will ever stay the same again.

It's everyone for themselves now. No one can be trusted anymore.
