'What they don't see won't bother them', she told herself, trying to keep a fierce gaze when she came to the crashed cars, flames bursting from the collision. Chloe, now six, watched in terror as the fire grew, orange, red, and yellow, mixing together like a warm painting. Her face, turning from confident to terrified. She hugged her teddy bear tight as tears fell down her pale, soft, pink tinted cheeks. Chloe shook herself, wiping the tears fiercely, terror turning into d e t e r m i n a t i o n . She walked up to the firefighter, coughing at the terrible fumes. "What is going on?!" She screamed with sass, so that he could hear her over the sirens, ringing loudly in her ears. He simply looked down at the girl, wide-eyed, and called to the other men and women. "There's a child over here!" His voice boomed out of his suit. "Get her out of here!" Chloe began to feel light-headed, her grip on her beloved bear loosening as darkness consumed her, the last thing she saw was a burning corpse, being taken out of one of the flaming cars. 'Mommy?'. Then darkness. Like the rest of her life . . .
