After 24 years since the 3rd Quarter Quell, the Hunger Games have continued due to the failure of the past Rebellion. 16-year-old Ayden Vachery, a young butcher from District 10, has been chosen for the 99th Hunger Games, along with Ellema Gergana, the 15-year-old daughter of the Gergana Farmers. Not only are the two going to be taking part in the Hunger Games, but they are also chosen for the upcoming plan they have yet to figure out. With the returning Effie Trinket as his makeup artist, Ayden deals with the secret his mentors Haymitch and Peeta, two characters who are also returning,  are keeping from him, as well as his complicated relationship with Ellema and his final days before taking part of the Hunger Games.
