Four years ago, the Simian Flu spread like wildfire throughout the world. Those few immune helped the needy. Those not infected attempted to remain that way. Those diseased, died. Total anarchy engulfed the United States. Competing to sustain resources for their struggling populations, war erupted and wiped out major cities and their power grids. Almost no organized civilizations remain. The Ape population has gone silent, not getting involved in human affairs since the rebellion.

Everett Grant and Atticus "Tuck" Brown are hungry, thirsty, and broken. They stumble from city to city in the southeast, searching for any fellow survivors. So far, they've found none. Desperate, they stagger into Nashville, Tennessee. There, everything changes.

In the night, a desperate cry for help.
