Serafina isn't a normal girl. She's really insecure about her eight toes, and feels the need to shout it to the world. She is a creature of the night and think she's the guardian of the Biltmore Estate, whatever the fuck that means.
After tearing an unimportant black rag into shreds, she was adopted by a mountain lion and, despite being twelve, married her "best friend," a rich white boy named Braeden Vanderbilt.

Braeden has agoraphobia and social anxiety. He hates people and would rather spend time with his horses rather than his eight-toed wife. But Serafina is his wife, so he much treat the same way he treats his dog.
When Braeden decides to adopt a child, Serafina faces a great evil she has never experienced before.
