When I first started writing this series, I truthfully had no idea where it would end. Creating characters that fit the landscape of my world was by no means easy. I had to think of their flaws as well as their good side. I wanted Lady Sarah Firling-Morden to have a spirited strong nature but I did not want to make her cold and hard like an ice queen so allowing her to be strong as well as kind and loving was like adding two sides to a coin.
Creating Janus' Character was tougher than I imagined but I came through the worst of the block to create a king in the making. Janus discovers his heritage after a prayer to a fire-tree was whispered. Armed with the knowledge that his real parents were his good-father's sister and the late king, he sets out to claim the throne and the three kingdoms.
But on his quest to discover his birth-rite, he is forced to send his wife across the sea to Lenos. Redhill Fort and the Capital of Zantia have gathered their forces under the orders of the Mad Queen Lydia who has grown more paranoid since her husband's death one year ago. But the north-men are stronger and are gathering eighty thousand men from the blade warriors in the east to their loyal banner-men. Will Honour win out or the cunning of the viper's nest in the Capital of Xantia succeed? I hope that my writing will improve over time and with literary learning. But for now I will hope that my first book will provide a decent backdrop and a decent start to a successful trilogy. We are House Firling and we keep the old ways.
