Carter is a high schooler (17) struggling with anxiety and depression, but he wasn't always like this. Last year Carter was one of the popular boys at school but after a brutal break up with his girlfriend things go down hill for him. Because of his trust issues he writes his secrets, thoughts and feelings in a secret diary. Although he gets straight A's and his father wants him to follow his footsteps as a layer, Carter wants to follow his dream, to be a musician. He has a passion for music ,especially for the violin. Until one day his dairy gets stolen...
Brooklyn is a teenager (17) going to the same school as Carter. She is a fangirl and a nerd. The only true friend she had, Violet, died at a car accident last year. Because of that now she suffers from depression and anorexia , but she found a way to cope with the loneliness by joining the music club at her school. Despite the fact that she can't sing or play any instrument , music is her happy place so she watches the club's rehearsals everyday after school, reading a book. There she makes two new friends , Ellen a girl with confidence who is not afraid to express her opinion and is open-minded and Liam a transfer student from London who is struggling with his sexuality. She has some secrets too that only her best friend knew. But that's about to change when she finds a dirty notebook in her school bag that has the name Carter on it.
As the story unfolds the two get to meet each other accidentally and they become friends or maybe something more than just friends.
Who stole the diary? Who put it in Brooklyn's bag? Why? What will happen when Brooklyn finds out that the mysterious diary belongs to Carter? What will they do? Will their secrets be exposed? What happens in the end?
