Escaping her distasteful home in the outback, Sophia Rollins seeks to start fresh in the beautiful, tropical city of Carins in Queensland, Australia. There she can finally be herself, a quirky artist, a lover of nature and a hermit. However, this runaway isn't everything she hoped it would be. Her waitressing job is exhausting, the rent is expensive and her sister is engaged to Mr. Perfect. Things aren't going the way she had hoped, that is until she runs into her neighbors three doors down. One of them, a tan and stubborn surfer boy, and the other a blind sweetheart. Despite the fact that Cooper Wilson has no sight, he seems to be the most content person on the planet; at least Sophia thinks so. But as their relationship grows, she discovers that Cooper has anxieties to overcome and Sophia learns how to open her eyes from a boy who can never open his.
