Link is known to be a man of few words. In this case, it is completely true.
He has been mute since he was very little, no one knows why. As you can probably expect, other people his age are rather vocal, especially about him not being so.
Zelda sees through it. She takes a look further to see who is behind all of the silence, but it doesn't work out how she expected it to. She doesn't only find a friend.

A story which both Zelda fans and people who don't even know what Nintendo is can enjoy. It's a princess's dream to be swooped away by her knight in shining armour, but for Zelda, this knight has to be a prince as well, in order to follow the King's rules. Link and Zelda's love is put at stake when trust and loyalty are tested. Can the two break through the laws to pursue their love, or will they give in and follow the path chosen for them? Nintendo own the characters of Link and Zelda, as well as the location of Hyrule and Hateno Village, but the rest of the character are all my own, as well as... the other location. A Couple of Trials (ZeLink)

Between Timelines: A Legend of Zelda Fanfic
One year ago, Link defeated Ganon, freeing Zelda and saving Hyrule. After not having seen Link in many months, they are finally reunited at Zelda's coronation on her 18th birthday. The circumstances of their meeting, however, are not what either of them imagined. This story takes places between the end of the botw story line and the beginning of the totk story line, and tells the story of what happened in that time. Opting to forgo their titles and start a new life as regular travelers before starting to rebuild the kingdom, Link and Zelda begin their new life in the Era of the Wild, trying to discover why the monsters still exist. Starting as a fiery hate towards Link turns into an undeniable passionate love story of forbidden love and desire of closeness in secret. Peeling back Link's hardend exterior revealing his heart, Zelda yearns to be free with him in the open. A zelink fanfic occuring before the events of breath of the wild. Not everything is canon. Some dialogue, storyline and characters belong to Nintendo.

It's been 5 years since the end of the Calamity, and all is well in Hyrule. Zelda and Link have settled comfortably into their new lives - Zelda as Queen, and Link as her right hand. Zelda doesn't believe in soulmates; Zelda barely even believes in herself. That is, until Link turns up with a sword strapped to his back, heralding the end of times. Now, they must work together to prevent the fall of Hyrule and rise of Calamity Ganon. But, the task proves as tricky as expected, especially when Zelda feels like she's falling faster than her Kingdom...and perhaps in a way she never expected to.
