The year is 2100. The Progression has begun. In an effort to better the world, all religion, exploration, and art has been abolished to promote a science and math based society. Those refusing to succumb to the Progression have been eliminated or deemed a life of servitude, leaving the world population at two billion. Humans have reverted back to the Victorian age of suppression and muted emotion.
