One hundred years from now, in an eerily dystopian world of war and poverty, a diminishing band of unlikely teenagers are on the run from a ruthless government who will stop at nothing to end the war that threatens to destroy civilization. After a mysterious eruption of a volcano thought to be extinct, the few survivors of the suffocating ash cloud that eradicated their town must run from the Wardens that begin to hunt them down for seemingly no apparent reason. That is until they discover they have procured some curious new traits of character that intensifies their personality to a whole new level. This was no accident.
