In the Before, scientists had struggled to discover a cure for cancer. Discovering one meant creating something that wasn't human. Something that attacked at first glance. After waking up from a coma, Lily soon discovers that she's in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. She has no memory of who she was due to her injuries, but finds a journal that explains almost everything in the Before. She needs it to understand, to remember. After escaping near-death experiences with the Infected, Lily soon stumbles upon a group that searches for a haven, which may or may not exist. The members are generous, but ask too many questions of a past Lily has no memory of. She joins the group, and gets to know Aiden, a handsome boy who has grown a wall of security due to the apocalypse. The After is a world of never-ending suffering. Does a cure even exist? And if so, is it worth dying over?

The dead do not sleep. The dead do not eat. The dead most certainly do not laugh. And the dead do not cry. 6 years have passed since nuclear war broke out, destroying the planet and killing most of the world's population. Different geographical regions have been affected differently, the climate mutating and transforming people into horrific monsters of all kinds. Now humanity must fight to survive amongst literal zombies, vampires, and horrific fungal spores capable of reducing even the strongest to nothing. Emily lives with a small, ragtag group of survivors, her friends before the outbreak occurred. When one of them falls ill, in dire need of medicine, the group is forced to travel to the hospital across town, where they discover something, or rather someone unexpected. Mark was a normal person before the outbreak, before he was bitten by his own father, before everything went to hell in a handbasket. Now he lives under the hospital with his trusty cat Buckwheat, hiding from the daylight and wondering why him, out of all the infected, has to "live" with the curse of sanity after his demise. A chance encounter leaves him wondering if maybe there's more to life after death. BOOK ONE IN THE 'AFTER LIFE ENDED' SERIES
