In the spring of 1900, ten teams set out by canoe on a government-sponsored expedition to survey the wilds of Northern Canada. Their four-month mission: to record an inventory of the resource potential of the Province of Ontario's untouched frontier.  Renowned athlete and lumberman George Reginald Gray commands Expedition Party No. 3, a team of scientists, surveyors, canoe men and a Native guide. Following the lead of the enigmatic Cree elder,  the party delves deep into the heart of the Temagami wilderness where they awaken the true spirit of the land.
  
  "The Line in the Sand" draws upon primary source and archival documents to reveal the untold story of the odyssey of Expedition No. 3 and imagines what lies beneath the few surviving records of the journey.

He refused to stay in the stretcher beyond the first day and said that any discomfort in the saddle would be nothing compared to being bounced along behind a flatulating horse.
