Being a homosexual wasn't against the law, but it may as well have been, for it was illegal for anyone to have intimate relationships or commit any intimate acts with someone of the same gender. The boy had loved the man, that's why he kissed him, but the other man turned the boy in for committing an intimate act with him. The man claimed the the boy had forced him to kiss him. As soon as the trial began, it became apparent to all in the courtroom that the boy wasn't going to come out of this well.
