Příběh začíná smrtí Luka a pokračuje jeho procitnutím na Mortisu, kdy zjišťuje, že ani zdaleka není tak mrtvý, jak by si mohl myslet. Ačkoliv je planeta krom něj zcela prázdná, Luke se ani zdaleka nenudí - dostal se totiž na místo, kde je tak silně spjat se Sílou, jako nebyl ještě nikdy v životě.
Tato kniha spolu s prvním dílem trilogie připraví půdu pro knihu STAR WARS: POSLEDNÍ BITVA - ÚSVIT MÍRU, která zakončí Expandované Universum zaslouženě epicky.
