Keith and Lance had been friends most of their lives. When Keith came out to Lance as gay, Lance had run a mile and their friendship ended. Hunk and Pidge went to a different planet to help people, and so did Coran and Allura. Shiro, Keith and Lance go on another mission to a planet where no one lives.
