After her first grade year, haley spent most of her summer days at the playground a few minutes from her home. She mostly kept to herself because no friend she had could live up to her wild imagination. Until she met leslie. Leslie wasnt like the kids she went to school with, she was different. For days on end, in the blasting heat of a chicago summer, they started drifting away from the park and into the woods, telling stories and making forts, laughing harder than ever before. When leslies dad would leave the house, the two 7 year old girls would roam around in secret, playing hide and seek hoping her father wouldnt return too soon. By the end of that summer, haley had found her forever best friend, trading their bff necklaces to seal the deal. Then the worst happened. Four years later and we're still on the ground, crawling, in search of the happiness that was lost that June. Summers will never be the same. Midnight walks through my neighborhood will never be the same. Field parties with bonfires and loud music will never be the same. I still don't know why you left and what lead you to the decision you made. What I do know is that we're here. We're alive and we're pushing forward to the future. A future that you're not a part of.
