Tom meets a boy named Tord and they become friends. Soon after Tord has to leave the island but not before his father, Paul, kills Tom's mother. A few weeks Tom meets another boy whose name is Edd. Both Tom and Edd flee to another island and meet yet another boy, Matt. A few more weeks go by and they're taken to a foreign monster hunting facility. There Tom meets Tord once more. The four go to an orphanage.
