Riley is a 15 year old fighter. No, she doesn't train with punching bags at the gym. She fights for her life everyday.

After her father died when she was 11 years old, her mother drowned herself in drugs and alcohol, completely blocking out her responsibilities. Including Riley.

She lives in a dump and almost constantly forgets to be fed. She sleeps on a thin mattress on the floor and doesn't remember the last time she had power or water.

Then she meets Jason; the boy next door living the life. He was the rich kid, the role model of the neighborhood. That is until He sneaks out one night to pull off a great school heist; he spray painted the school walls. He figures no one would expect him to do it.

Well then he accidentally climbed into Riley's window... whoops

Well like it or not now there stuck in the same boat. And Jason has car. And Riley just happens to need to escape.

So with some blackmail, Jason and Riley are suddenly on a road trip, escaping their lives.

Where are they going? They don't know.

Jadeyn had to find her way in the world by herself, with no one. She had no idea she had two older brothers in the world, and she had a child to take care of - Rowen Mills. But a terrible thing happens and she lands right in the arms of a man she feels like she knows, but can't figure out how because she has never been in Chicago before. Jay got a quick glimpse of the girl in his arms, they both have the same green eyes. He can't get over the fact that he feels like he has to be there when she wakes up. That he needs to protect her. This story is out of the characters views. The book is mostly out of Jadeyn Mills's perspective but there are chapters with Jay Halstead and other characters as well.
