Once upon a time, in a mighty castle to the west, lived a cruel prince who lead a spoiled life. He wanted for nothing, and in turn felt nothing. His parents had passed long ago, leaving him alone. He retreated so far into himself that his heart became as cold as the cracked walls of his castle. One night, a poor beggar came to the mighty castle gates, pleading shelter from the ravenous wolves that waited in the dark woods. The prince watched the beggar plead, but did nothing. For if he opened the gate, he reasoned, the wolves may attack him instead. Just as the pack was about to close in, the beggar shed her human form to reveal a powerful enchantress. She twisted the iron of the palace gates like ribbons and grabbed the prince. She had seen there was no love in his heart, because it was made of stone. Plunging her nails into his chest, she ripped his heart from his body, and turned it into a rose. Without a heart, the prince began to change into a hideous demon. The enchantress told him that the only way to become human again was to earn the heart of another before his own withered away on his twenty first birthday. Upon the servants of the palace she placed a terrible curse, that they would fade to nothing more than shadows if the prince failed. Weeks faded into years, and the beast hid himself away in despair. He sealed the twisted iron gates, keeping everyone out. And with every moment that passed, he lost more hope for his heart. For who could ever learn to love a beast?

Once upon a time in the hidden heart of France, a handsome young prince lived in a beautiful castle. Although he had everything his heart desired, the prince was selfish, spoiled, and unkind. He had an entire army of servants there to attend to his every need, most of which were there since his childhood. The prince nearly hated his staff, even when they'd done nothing wrong - and were only trying to meet his needs. One night, during one of the Prince's courting events - a special type of ball, where dozens of young woman would dress up and dance with the prince, in an attempt to win over his heart and become queen to the Kingdom - An uninvited guest arrived. It was a poor, shivering, elderly woman seeking shelter from the bitter winter storm. Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the prince dismissed the woman. As a gift, the old woman offered the prince a single rose, but when he dismissed her again, the woman's outer appearance melted away. Only to reveal a beautiful enchantress. The prince begged for forgiveness, but it was too late - for she could see there was no love in his heart. The enchantress cursed the prince, transforming him into a hideous beast - and if he was unable to learn to love another, and earn their love in return by the time the last petal from the rose she offered had fallen, he would remain a beast forever. But the enchantress also placed the curse upon his innocent castle staff, who were transformed into antiques; suffering for the prince's mistake(s) in small, rusting, metallic bodies. Life was hard enough for the staff, but now - it was unbearable. ~ This story will go through the staff's struggles before, DURING, and after they were cursed. It will also fill plot holes and extend the ending of Beauty And The Beast. A majority of this story is a prequel, and will fall into a bit of a sequel as well, so I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
