(Sequel to Illusory)

Life has been wonderful for Seiko Kobayashi and Alex Sokolov these past few months. They've climbed the ranks in the Neverland Society, kept criminals off the streets, and gotten to live without fear for once in their lives. Despite this all though, Seiko finds herself still haunted by the events of the past, especially by the voice of a man she knows too well.

Though, when superhumans are suddenly named as suspects for a past tram bombing and the destruction of the Agloe building, Seiko and Alex are thrown into chaos again and can no longer trust the humans around them, for fear of either being put in shackles or even killed. Will they get to the bottom of these crimes and reveal the true suspects to the world? Or will they just become another statistic in superhuman arrests and deaths?

"This time, I will NOT let history repeat itself."

Longlisted for ONC 2023! "You think they'd spare you? The second they find us--and they will find us--they won't hesitate." He pushed the blade into Jules' hand. "Holding a gun at war isn't a crime." Jules' grandfather is one of the most powerful people in Emaru. Blessed as a dual wielder of glass and stone while most can only control one, he needs to transfer this power to a worthy heir and send them off to kill Kurayami, an out-of-control dual wielder, before he dies. Logically, Jules knows it should be her. They are kin, and family is everything on Emaru. But every day Jules wraps her chest in bandages and "powerful mages don't play dress up". When her grandfather blesses an arrogant boy with his magic, Jules sets off on her own to prove that he made a mistake. After all, she's just as capable of killing Kurayami as anyone. But when she's face-to-face with Kurayami, everything her grandfather taught her about the gods is thrown into question; and maybe those she once called family are no longer deserving of the title. ----------------------------- Glossary: - Molder--those who can wield glass, usually with white or black wings - Grounder--those who can wield rock, usually with grey or brown wings - Castrealms "Casts"--aka dual wielders who can wield glass and rock - Emaru--island nation where the story takes place - Kirama--Julian's hometown where her grandfather was once governor - Chinera--city next to Kirama ----------------------------- CW: mild profanity, mild violence, transphobia, homophobia ----------------------------- Open Novella Contest 2023! Targeted by superpowered terrorists, an actress is protected by the government's strongest guardian--the same woman who broke her heart two years ago. ☆ Elsie Bates won't deny that she's made a few enemies during her fifteen-year acting career, but she never thought her actions would warrant her death at the hands of meta-human terrorists. As if that wasn't bad enough, her federally appointed bodyguard is the famous Camilla Wyatt, the most powerful guardian in the country and Elsie's sworn enemy. Because behind Camilla's sunny personality is a cold and heartless young woman, and no one but Elsie knows the truth. At least, that's what Elsie initially thinks. As it happens, being forced into a protective lockdown with someone can change perspectives, and Elsie slowly uncovers the secret behind Camilla's complicated character. In turn, Camilla begins to realize that maybe "trust issues" shouldn't be in her superpower repertoire, and self-preservation doesn't necessarily require self-isolation. But as the women grow closer, so do the forces that attempt to split them apart. And when the worlds of superpowered militaries, propaganda movies, and hidden conspiracies begin to collide, Elsie and Camilla must rely on each other to survive. ☆ INCLUDES: ✓ Militarized superheroes ✓ LGBTQ+ romance ✓ Diverse characters ✓ Subtle sociopolitical commentary ✓ "Science" FEATURED: ★ 2023 Amby Awards Top Pick (Sci-Fi) ★ @lgbtq Pride Awards 2023 Category Winner (Sci-Fi) ★ @FreeTheLGBT Pride Awards - Third Place ★ @TripleACommunity Aro Ace Awards - Shortlist ★ @superhero, @FreeTheLGBT, @WattpadUrbanFantasy, @StoriesUndiscovered Mature rating is for violence, grotesque descriptions, and swearing. 26 chapitres En cours d'écriture Contenu pour adultes

Evolution has taken a shift in the human genome; instead of people walking around like normal humans, everyone is born with the ability to gain extraordinary powers once they reach a certain age in their lives. The age at which they gain these abilities determines the strength of these powers, with those gaining them at the earliest stage of life being called "Bloomers," and people who either do not have them yet or awaken them later on in life being called "Late Bloomers." Society has found a way to work around this evolution, but it functions somewhat differently from our own. With slight differences as the America east coast joined together into one "superstate,". The story follows Sasha McCrory, a late bloomer from the more rural part of what was once Virginia, in her senior year at one of the most violent high schools in the country. We follow her and her friends as they navigate through their final year at the notorious Blackwell High School. At the same time, we dive into their mental struggles, find out about the strange semi-dystopia they live in, and dive into themes such as rediscovering optimism from a pessimistic mindset and rehabilitation.
